By preserving the whole moral law of marriage, the Church knows that she is supporting the growth of a true civilization among men.

In teaching that contraception is intrinsically immoral, the Church is not imposing a disciplinary law on Catholics; she is preaching only what nature and the gospel preach.

To Cardinal Law’s credit

After thousands of pages of private files have been, under dubious pretexts, taken from the Church and published in order to incite mob reaction; there is not one word which proves that Cardinal Law

intentionally tried to hurt anyone.  At most, they prove that the Cardinal, from what is now seen to be a misguided understanding of the nature of sexual perversion, allowed certain grave sinners chances to

reform which put others at risk.

On the other hand, many of those judging the Cardinal, have knowingly and willfully contributed to the pitiless abortions of thousands of defenseless babies for whom the Cardinal has faithfully

spoken up.       Editor8@FaithfulVoice.com

"General absolution may only be imparted in

cases of grave necessity"

A General absolution is mainly indicated for situations where there is physical impossibility to administer the Sacrament of Confession according to the usual rules, such as, for example, at the time of an imminent bombing attack.  It is not intended  to handle the case of a psychological antipathy to normal confession.

The heart of the efficacy and validity of the sacraments lies in the priest's "intention of doing what the Church does (intentio faciendo quod facit Ecclesia)".  This fundamental intention covers even the forgetfulness which may occur when performing religious duties. A ceremony of  general absolution, intended to replace normal "auricular confession" would call into doubt the very validity and sacramental value of such a substitution.

As one orthodox priest affirmed: Priests who have serious guilty in the sexual abuse crisis as well as other mortal sins have the grave obligation of going to confession as soon as possible, knowing that such confessions are protected, notwithstanding any civil law, by the seal of confession.  If the peace of soul that one seeks is the Church's guarantee of God's forgiveness, then that simply is what you must do.
