A Priest of Integrity
Several months ago,I attended Sunday Mass at a local Roman Catholic Church. I
was profoundly impressed by the humility of the Celebrant,as he lived the role of
''Another Christ'', it was in total obedience to the Liturgical Laws and his
fidelity was obvious. Before Mass he entered Church dressed in the proper
clerical garb and genuflected before the Lord in the Tabernacle.
And now it was time for his homily. As he began it was clear that his message
was not going to be a boring lecture given by a Ph.D. Theologian. He addressed
us as fellow sinners,and said ''You may not like what I am about to
say,but I have a grave responsibility to warn you of the results of sin''
He then proceeded to enumerate the modern day list of serious sins..He detailed
contraception,sterilization,vascectomy,living together[relationship] before
marriage,missing Mass,ignoring confession divorce,abortion,sacrilegious
communions, and other serious sins. He gave statistics that over 70% of
Catholics use contraceptives and 70% think it doesn`t matter if you miss
Mass,over half of marriages fail and most people have sex before
marriage............
The congregation was stunned by his sincerity and openness...''I am
obliged before My Lord to warn you to reform and confess your
sins,because ''we have not here a lasting home''..Our home is in Heaven
!! He then said he always hears sermons at funerals canonizing the disceased.''Some
Priests are trying to comfort the family and make them feel good and that is
fine,but we demand that loved ones pray unceasingly for the departed until we
are all home in Heaven..And if we pray for our family in Purgatory we will be
encouraged to follow Christ and avoid sin.
After his homily the entire congregation stood up and spontaneously applauded
for at least 5 minutes..He hit home and we all felt fulfilled because of his
simple message.....This is a priest of integrity...He told the truth as Jesus
would have to save us from the fires of Hell..This priest is in full communion
with the Vicar of Christ..If our priests have an agenda to tell us to keep the
faith and change the church [ agenda of Voice of the Faithful ],we should
respond spontaneously--teach us to live the faith and change our ways to adhere
to the Lord`s Church.....That is the message--keep it simple,remind us that we
are sinners, and priests ''other Christs''should no longer abuse us with a
watered down feel good faith...It`s a matter of life or death..Peace be with
